Best way to Travel Kumamoto〜Kagoshima (Modern Japan)

This is my first visit to Kagoshima (鹿児島) from Kumamoto (熊本). Visiting Kagoshima is one of the greatest fun in Japan. It is located in southern part of Kyushu Island and best known for Sakurajima (桜島), an active volcano.

If you are in Kumamoto and planning to visit Kagoshima for the same day tour. Then, here are all the tips you’ll need to know for your first visit to Kagoshima from Kumamoto.

How to get in : Public Transportation

There are Shinkansen (bullet train) and Bus from Kumamoto.

Kyushu Shinkansen runs several hours from Kumamoto Station. If you are planning to go by Shinkansen then you need to ride from Kumamoto Station and get off at Kagoshima-Chuo. The total distance is 170 km which takes not more than an hour. Talking about fares, it varies if you buy online or from ticket counter. So, please visit JR Kyushu Shinkansen

If you love to feel natural beauty while traveling then I personally recommend you to go by Bus. There is a bus i.e. Kirishima-go (きりしま号) which goes to Kagoshima from Kumamoto station, providing a 3 hours 30 minutes journey in the lap of nature.

There are various ways for enjoying Kagoshima. So, you must visit when you get chance to come in here. I visited the following wonderful spots.

Sakurajima:

The photo has been taken from Kagoshima Port. There is Sakurajima Ferry which connect Sakurajima and Kagoshima City. For more details about Sakurajima.

Caution: I personally feel DO NOT WEAR CONTACTS because Sakurajima is essentially an active volcano so, there is constant ash in the air.
